The MeaderyThe MeadmakerThe Myth of Heidrun

Gordon's signature style of meadmaking—and the Heidrun trademark—is based upon the simple philosophy that the meadmaker's primary responsibility is to reveal the natural essence of honey.

THE MEADMAKER
In 1995, while on leave from his work as a geologist in Seattle, Gordon Hull acted on a whim  and enrolled in an apprenticeship program at the American Brewer's Guild in Davis, California. What began as a reasonably composed curiosity regarding the lost art of meadmaking quickly turned passionate. Two years, two apprenticeships and a garage-full of honeywine experiments later, he founded Heidrun Meadery.

Gordon's signature style of meadmaking—and the Heidrun trademark—is based upon the simple philosophy that the meadmaker's primary responsibility is to reveal the natural essence of honey; those remarkably complex yet subtle aromas of earth, herb, spice and flower that make each variety of honey a profound experience for our senses. His method unites traditional meadmaking and winemaking practices with modern fermentation techniques to craft meads that both entice and satisfy the sophisticated, adventurous palate.

When not licking his sticky fingers at the meadery, Gordon can usually be found tending his garden or riding his bicycle.
